Patanjali's honey fails purity test. The adjudicating officer has imposed fines after the sample, collected four years ago from Didihat in Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand, was found to be substandard. Investigations revealed that the sample contained more than double the permissible amount of sucrose.
On Friday, the adjudicating officer levied a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the seller in Didihat and the distributor company in Ramnagar. District Food Safety Officer RK Sharma explained that a sample was collected from Gaurav Trading Company in Didihat in July 2020 and sent for testing, where it was found to contain 11.1 percent sucrose, well above the standard five percent.
Following the findings, the department initiated legal action against the seller in November 2021. The adjudicating officer, ADM Dr. SK Baranwal, issued the verdict on Friday, imposing fines of Rs 40,000 on Gaurav Trading Company and Rs 60,000 on super stockist Kanhaji Distributor in Ramnagar.
